Hippie Logger Song

Once upon a time I had twenty acres out in the middle of bum fuck nowhere and was hauling old cedar from the swamp that had been seasoned for over a hundred years. It was so pretty until the loggers brought all their skidders through a salmon stream and backed up water all over, so it flooded my property two and a half feet deep overnight. I got pissed and went to the Sierra Club in Seattle. They said that they wouldn’t do anything, all of Gray’s Harbor County is off limits, it’s a dead zone. So I got super pissed and wrote this song on my bus ride back.

Oh the hippies and the loggers should be friends
They both like to go fishing and they've got this thing about trees
Well one of them sees all the pretty pines
And the other one sees all the dollar signs
And the hippies and the loggers quarrel to no ends
When the down and out are out shooting dope
And the politicians are smoking coke
The hippies and the loggers have common ground to trod
They both like beer and quite a lot
They both can't live without their pot
It's funny how the two of them worship the same God

You would think between these three
The loggers hippies and the trees
They'd get along eventually if time would come around
But the hippies like to plant their seeds

Grow the weeds and climb the trees
And the loggers they just come along
And cut those trees on down.

Sometimes those loggers do a whole bunch of speed
Go cut down a mess of trees
Leave them in the streams and wetlands
For miles and miles around

You would think it was some kind of a tease
To piss off all those nice hippies
Who climb down from their old growth trees
And monkey wrench their machines.

In the end when it's all cut and done
The hippies had a lot of fun
Got those loggers on the run and bought their land for cheap

Now the loggers made their money fast
Knowing the old growth would never last
And the hippies made a ton of cash selling slash they didn't see

In the end when it's all cut and dried
The hippies got the loggers high
Reminiscing about the days gone by
When the trees were thick as stumps

But now they both got kids and bills to pay
They both remember the good old days
So the hippies and the loggers form a union and grow hemp

Oh the hippies and the loggers should be friends
They both like to go fishing and they've got this thing about trees
Well one of them sees all the pretty pines
And the other one sees all the dollar signs
And the hippies and the loggers quarrel to no ends
