Rattlesnake

I had been thinking about the story of the baby rattlesnake for quite a while, and didn't have a melody or the words. It came to me in a period pf an hour, and I ended up writing the words on some note cards and taping them together with duct tape when it was recorded the next day. Basically a rattlesnake is born with only so much venom, and if it uses it up as a baby in defense, the venom is much more deadly. But that also affects the snakes life expectancy catching prey. So I made this an analogy for relationships and how after many years the venom in the bite turns into a finger wagging, like the rattle as it grows longer over time.

I prefer if you bought it through this website, that way I actually make something more than the $0.05 I get from Spotify, but feel free to listen to or buy this album using these links:

I struck him down on a sunny day
In a big ol pile of mud
The only thing left when they carried him away
Was two spots of blood

The old man came up to me and said
Well look here son
If you don't listen to me you'll die real soon
And you ain't the only one

My tail has taken a while to grow
And there's a reason it's so long
Boy you better learn how to cool your roll
And keep your life long

Your bite is stronger than my bark
But if you strike it will soon be gone
Save your venom for the things that matter
Not the ones who've done you wrong

Well she hit me in the face with her wedding ring
And she left it on the lawn
The only thing she left me when she left me for good
Was the fact she'd done me wrong

My blood was boiling and the food was spoiling
When I remembered this old song
About the little baby rattlesnake and what his daddy said
To keep him strong

Relationships are like rattlesnakes
They start off fresh and new
But as the days go by and the fire dies
And the smaller details too

The venom grows weaker as the rattle grows louder
And the rest just follows through
Well he took three deeps breaths
And slammed the car door
And he opened up a brew

Well then he shot him down on a sunny day
In a big ol pile of mud
The only thing left when they carried him away
Was two pints of blood
