No Compromise

During 1993-1995 I was fairly active in eco activism regarding illegal logging of old growth, and became aware of the broad anarchist movement, and how it was so diverse, disconnected but still in some way, aligned with similar values as I was feeling. I found a sense of community in the Francis Street squats in Vancouver, BC that had been there for a long time. However at the same time we are being targeted and picked off by the cops for minor things that usually got thrown out of court. One of my favorite memories was when we were squatting in an abandoned building right on Granville St, basically downtown Vancouver.  One night, or morning (we couldn’t tell, it had no open windows) the cops showed up and took us to jail on burglary and attempted theft. It turns out that they heard a sound of a hammer trying to get into the bank next door. Which we didn’t even know was there. Needless to say, the Judge laughed at the whole thing. We came home to a destroyed pile of where our homes used to be with only bulldozers and garbage trucks carrying our lives away. Nowadays a mere thirty years after I wrote this we have divisionary tactics by labeling movements with negative connotations such as Antifa , but we are the People and standing together we are strong.
