 Short Road

This song was born completely by accident when I jokingly said to a friend while we were sitting around the plaza taking a break from busking “go take a long walk down a short road” and we laughed that it wasn't the standard “go take a long walk off a short pier”, but then realized that they both didn't make sense anyways, because there wasn't a short pier, or a short road around us at the time. And then... I started thinking of all the things we say on a daily basis, like if I had a million dollars when you don't. This was a blast to write. When I recorded it, my throat was so hoarse that I could barely sing, but when Everett Moran from Rainshadow Studio in Port Townsend Washington donates recording time, I'm taking it. So the sound is a bit different, but I like it.

I prefer if you bought it through this website, that way I actually make something more than the $0.05 I get from Spotify, but feel free to listen to or buy this album using these links:

Take a long walk off a short road
Don't let the screen door hit you on the way out
I had a penchant for something you mentioned
Something you said you can't live without

Well I'm rolling down the highway heading to the Carolinas
Got a couple hound dogs and a bunch of apple pie… moonshine
Working on my own redemption
When you popped the big question
It was something that I had to figure out

Got me a little cabin in a holler I won't mention
With a stream in the back where I can catch my trout
But I  guess I'm second guessing
Thought I would have learned my lesson
But loving you came with so much clout

Your daddy was a preacher and a local feature
He made sure you were educated and astout
But I bet he didn't reckon when I saw you beckon
That I would be the one lead you out

When we got married down at the grainery
I had good sense that something else was about
But I figured I could be bigger and to that I didn't give any doubt

But he came out of left field with his fifth wheel
And he snatched you up and carried you away
If I had a million dollars I bet I would have been there
And you'd still be my baby today

So go and take a long walk off a short road
Don't let the screen door hit you on the way out
I had a penchant for something you mentioned
Something you said you can't live without
